It's not often that you get to see Aiden in this light. Usually when you see him he's annoying Felicia, or thinking he's the most charming person known to man, when in reality he's rather annoying....but this prompt shows him in a different light.
(No, it's not a redemption curve or anything....he's still a jerk and bullheaded and thinks he's such hot stuff.....but people aren't two dimensional, and there are multiple faucets to personalities, this is simply a side of him that isn't often seen-just like everyone has a side that people don't normally see.) Prompt: "I knew it was you. It was always you." / "No, you are wrong. I am not the one you should rely on to save you. If you do, I am afraid you will only get hurt." / "I'm already hurt, and you are the only one here who can heal me." / "Just because I can, does not mean I will. Do not forget I have my own problems to deal with." Sasha glanced over at Aiden as he stepped inside the hut. She let out a small smile. “I knew it was you,” she said softly, “It was always you.” He had saved her. Over and over again, he had come to her rescue. He was the only one who had ever done that. Not even her own father had done as much as Aiden, to find her, to take care of her, to protect her, to heal her. “No,” Aiden shook his head, looking like a deer in the headlights as his heart began to race. It was one thing to drag Allen into his messed up life. It was Allen. He couldn’t drag someone else into it. Especially not Sasha. This was too much. He couldn’t let this continue. “You’re wrong,” Aiden continued making his way toward her, “I am not the one you should rely on to save you.” Sasha gave a little chuckle as if he was being the biggest idiot she had ever met. “If you do,” Aiden said, sitting down heavily on the bed, unable to look at her, “I am afraid you will only get hurt.” “I’m already hurt,” Sasha said, taking his hand in hers, “And you are the only one here who can help me.” “Just because I can, does not mean I will,” Aiden explained. He couldn’t let her continue to believe in him like this. He couldn’t have her relying on him this way. It was too dangerous. “Don’t forget,” Aiden said, trying to play hard ball, “I have my own problems to deal with.” “I know you say this out of fear,” Sasha said softly, understandingly. She was scared too. A person would have to be an idiot not to be scared. They were starting a war. A war….so easy to start. A mere blip of a thing….oh yes, the starting of a war was the easy part. Actually winning the war? Well, that was where the difficulty lay. Especially when it came to a war with Selm. “For the first time in my life,” Aiden deflated, “I’m not confident. I don’t know if I can do this. I’m not confident that I can win this fight.” Aiden took a breath. Sasha was the only person, besides Allen, who had ever had the opportunity to see Aiden without his devil may care attitude. Sasha was the only girl who saw beneath all the bluster and false confidence and could get to the depths of his soul and pull even the most secret part out of him. “We have to win,” Sasha sat upright, still holding Aiden’s hand, “If we don’t, not only will we lose the war, but we will lose everything.” Selm would take everything from their enemies. They would bring them to their knees until they were begging for release. They would send them into a living Hell with no escape but death, which would come slowly and painfully. “Perhaps I deserve it,” Aiden said almost too softly to be heard, even by Sasha, “After everything I’ve done.” Sasha nodded her head. She wasn’t quite sure what he meant, she didn’t know all the details of his past, but she understood the feeling behind it. She, too, felt as if she deserved it, after everything she had done. She was almost sure that everyone else felt the same, but that didn’t mean they could just give up. They had to keep fighting. They had to keep moving forward. It wasn’t just about them. If they lost, it wouldn’t just be them that had to deal with the consequences. Everyone would. “This isn’t just about us,” Sasha said, “It’s about our villages, our worlds, it’s about everyone,” she moved his head so he was looking at her and held on even tighter to his hand, “Which is why we can’t afford to lose.” “This isn’t going to end well of us,” Aiden said. “No,” Sasha confirmed, “It will not.” Their chances of seeing this through to the end were not good. The odds of both of them making it through the end, were even less. “You’re okay with that?” Aiden asked, eyeing her, “I have nothing to lose.” He was a nothing. A no one. She, she was a princess. A totally different world away. She had so much more to lose than him. “You have an entire kingdom in the balance.” Sasha shook her head. It wasn’t her kingdom. She no longer belonged there. She wasn’t a part of them. She was no more a princess than Jesse or Carrie were. “What is a crown?” Sasha asked, “A collection of polished gemstones on a circular band made of precious metals,” she explained, “I have you,” she patted his hand, “And I would take you over a thousand crowns, any time, even if it’s just a few years, months, weeks, days, or even hours.” Aiden took her hand and placed a kiss on the back. “You should get some rest,” he said, standing to go, “You’ll need your strength for what’s about to come.” He kissed the top of her head and walked out of the room.
