It sucks being the third wheel....but it's even worse being the third wheel between two best friends, as anyone who has been the third wheel friend will vouch for...but it's even worse when you marry one of the best friends, and you become a third wheeling husband to the two best friends.
Prompt: “I’m glad as a third wheel at least I’m here.” / “You’re her husband now.” / “Who came between two best friends. Risky business, I tell you,” sighed the new husband. “I have great news!” Janine smiled at Erica. “What?” Erica squealed, getting her excitement coming from Janine. “I’m pregnant!” Janine laughed. The two girls squealed and laughed and started giggling uncontrollably. “I”m glad as a third wheel at least I’m here,” Carl said, a smile on his face. “You’re her husband now,” Erica said, glancing over at him, a smile still on her face. “Who came between two best friends. Risky business, I tell you,” Carl joked. The three of them laughed. Carl tended to me more of a third wheel than Erica did. The three of them laughed.

Prompt: Person A: “Have you ever liked someone before but too scared to say it?” / Person B: “All the time.” / Person A: “Same” / Person A and B: Silence/ Person C: (In the distance but can hear them) (Slaps their own forehead) “They’re idiots! Oh my god! Kiss already! Or I am going to hear about this for the next week from A!”
Gemma looked over at Lance. He looked so cute, just lying there with his arm cradling his head. Her heart thudded in her chest. “Have you ever liked someone before but were too scared to say it?” Gemma asked before she could stop the words from coming out. They had been talking about everything since the day they had met, it seemed natural to ask about it, she didn’t think about if he’d take it the wrong way. “All the time,” Lance sighed, pushing himself up on his elbow so he could get a better look at her. “Same,” Gemma smiled. The two of them sat in silence. Outside, Jenica slapped her forehead and groaned, “Oh come on, just kiss already! If you don’t, I’m going to be hearing about this for the next week from Gemma and I really don’t want that! Come on!” She slipped out of her room, and peeked through the crack in the door. They weren’t any closer to kissing than they were when they met at the beginning of the year. This was aggravating, Jenica walked back to her room and screamed her frustration into a pillow. Prompt: She fell in love. He didn’t. Not all best friends do everything together.
They saw each other. Conversations were held. They became fast friends. Never apart. Joined at the hip, Their friends used to say. They used to say, That the two were perfect for each other. She’d smile, And laugh along. Never letting anyone know The truth. But the truth was, She wanted it to be true. She wanted them to be with each other. She wanted to be The perfect couple. She had fallen for him. She wanted to be with him. She fell for him. He didn’t. Apparently they didn’t Do everything together. Prompt: You already know how this will end.
Hunter was kickboxing the practice dummies. Carrie walked in. “Why are you helping us?” Carrie whispered. “Because,” he shrugged his shoulders, taking a drink of water. “But, you heard what the fortune teller said,” Carrie said softly, “This won’t end well…” she walked closer to him, and took his hands in hers. “I know,” Hunter nodded, “But this is what I do.” “You’re willing to go into this,” Carrie said, her face showing confusion on her face, “Even though you already know how this will end?” “Of course,” Hunter said. “I don’t want you to get hurt,” Carrie said, stepping closer to him. “I’ve been at this for a long time, I can take care of myself. I’ll be fine,” Hunter assured her. “But.” “You can’t trust fortune tellers, they can be extremely inaccurate. Don’t worry about it.” Carrie nodded, “Promise that you’ll take care of yourself. Please.” Hunter nodded, and held her for a moment before getting back to work. Prompt: “Promise me to untangle my curls during sleepless nights,” she said. / “Even when they’ll turn grey,” he promised with a smile.
Ryan jolted upright, panting heavily. There was a strange sound, like someone was dying in the most agonizing way possible. It was only when Henry came into the room, hair disheveled, and his clothes wrinkled from sleeping in them, that she realized that that horrible noise was coming from her own mouth. She was the one that was sounding like a crazy person. “Sshh, it’s alright, it’s okay,” Henry said softly, slowly coming close to her, but unable to touch her without getting hit. “No! No! No! It’s not! No! I can’t!” she cried, tears were streaming down her face as she rocked back and forth. “It’s alright, it’s over now,” Henry finally managed to get himself onto the bed, and gently turned her to look at him, “It’s okay, I’m here. It wasn’t real. It was just a dream. I promise, it was just a dream.” “No,” Ryan cried, “It’s not a dream! It’s not! No, please, no!!!” She rocked back and forth, tears streaming down her face. Henry took her into his arms and held her tightly, letting her tears soak his shirt. He held her until she calmed down. “Want to talk about it?” he finally asked. “No,” Ryan sniffled and shook her head. Henry nodded. She’d been through a lot, and the nightmares were just a natural part of her coping process, and he’d be there when she was ready to talk, if she was ready to talk. He lay her down on his lap and began to play with her hair. “Promise to untangle my curls during sleepless nights,” Ryan said sleepily. “Even when they turn grey,” Henry promised with a smile, as he continued to stroke her hair, letting Ryan fall into a dreamless sleep. Prompt: I have cried all of my tears. All that is left is anger.
The tears are all gone. They have all been cried, And now there is nothing, But a dryness where they used to be. My heart isn’t hurting. The tears are all gone. Pain is over. Anger is all that’s left. I’ve cried all my tears, All that’s left Is the anger The pain brought with it. Prompt: I think we were meant to be but we did it wrong.
Skye was shivering as the rain fell down on her head. She should go inside, but she didn’t want to, she wasn’t ready to go inside yet. Kevin walked outside, an umbrella above his head. He immediately walked to her side and used the umbrella to shield her from the weather. “You’re soaking wet, and probably freezing,” Kevin said. She stared at him. “Why don’t we come inside. I’ve got some hot chocolate on, and the fireplace is going, and we can dry you off and get you warm.” Another non response, Kevin guided her inside. He had everything all set. She changed quickly and curled up next to the fireplace while Kevin brought a steaming cup of hot chocolate in to her and let her cling to it. “Why are you so good to me?” Skye asked softly. “What do you want me to do? Hit you, lock you in a basement, yell at you?” “I don’t know...maybe…” Skye shrugged, pushing back her wet hair from her face, “It might be easier that way.” “Skye,” Kevin said softly, placing his hand on hers on top of the steaming cup, “I love you. I will always love you.” “Why?” “Because….” Kevin thought for a minute, “I think that you and I, we were meant to be together….” Skye started to interrupt him, but Kevin continued on. “But we just did it wrong,” Kevin shrugged, “But, even if we can’t be together, I still want to be a part of your life,” he pushed the hair back from her face and placed a soft kiss on her forehead, “Please, stop trying to push me away.” “I don’t know if I can,” Skye said softly. “After everything that we’ve been through together….you can’t just throw that away. Please, at least try,” his eyes were pleading softly. “Okay,” Skye breathed, “I’ll try, but I can’t promise anything.” “Trying is all I’m asking.” Kevin propped himself up against the wall, making himself comfortable before easing Skye backwards so she could use him as a wall to lean on. He held her against him until she drifted off to the most restful sleep she had had since she had been kidnapped all those years ago. Prompts: “Why are you still single?” she asked. / “Haven’t found the right one yet.” / He didn’t have the courage to tell her that she was the one.
Ana was curled up in a ball in the rocking chair while James sprawled out all over the place, staring at the ceiling. “Why are you still single?” Ana asked, out of nowhere. “Haven’t found the right one yet,” he said, rolling himself over to prop himself on his elbow. He shrugged his shoulders as much as possible. He stared at Ana. She looked so adorable, even in her sweatpants and t-shirt, her hair falling down in her face without a care, and no make-up on. He wanted to tell her that she was the ‘right one.’ He wanted to tell her that she was the one that he wanted, that he wanted to be in her life. However, he didn’t want to ruin their friendship. He didn’t want to make things awkward. So he stayed silent; lacking the courage to say what he was truly feeling. Prompt: I knew he didn’t love me but I adored him anyway.
He was great. He was everything. He wasn’t mine. I saw his eyes Whenever he saw her. He’d light up. Still, He was perfect, At least to me. I knew he didn’t love me It was easy to see, And yet, I adored him. Prompt: I wish that I was what you wanted.
There you are. So close, And yet so far away. I can reach out And touch you, Breathe you in. You are within my reach, But tantalizingly Out of my grasp. You’re there. Right there. But so far. You’re with her. I’ve seen how you look at her. She’s everything. I don’t want to steal you away I like her too much To cause her that kind of pain. I don’t want you to lose her. I don’t want her to lose you. I just wish it was me. I wish I was what you wanted. I wish it was me. I wish for us. |
