Prompt: He felt warm and familiar. He felt solid and safe. I wanted to cling to his shirt, bury my face into the warm curve of his neck, and never let go.
Jeremiah felt warm and familiar as he held Angelica. With his arms around her, holding her tightly, Angelica felt safe. Jeremiah's arms were safe and solid. Angelica wanted nothing more than to cling to Jeremiah's shirt, hiding her face away from all the pain and suffering in the world, and have him take over and let her rest. She wanted to bury her face into the warm curve of his neck and never let go. He was her safety. He was her rock. She didn't know if she could do this without him.

Prompt: A matchmaking service
"How did you meet him?" Angelica asked. "I used a matchmaking service," Sarah said. "Really?" Were matchmaking services still a thing, in this day and age? "Hinge," Sarah laughed. Angelica rolled her eyes. Sure, online dating was fine for some people, and she knew several people who had met online and it worked out really well for them, but it never seemed to work for her. Prompt: "Go rest. I'll take care of everything."
Angelica's eyes were getting heavy. There was nothing she wanted more than to close them tightly and allow herself to drift away to the land of nothingness. Maybe, when she woke up, she would find that it had all been some terrible nightmare and none of it had been real. But no. She couldn't sleep. She couldn't close her eyes. It would ruin everything. They were already in this mess because of her, and her stupid need to sleep. She wasn't going to make it worse by letting her guard down even further. Jeremiah inched his way toward Angelica and wrapped his arm around her. She looked at him tiredly. She wanted nothing more than to lean back into his chest, and let his arms fully wrap around her, and surrender to sleep, with the full knowledge that nothing could go wrong with him there. He would protect her, take care of her, the monsters inside her head didn't dare to make a move with him around. It would be so easy to just close her eyes and sleep with him there. But she couldn't do that. She couldn't do that to him. She had put too much on Kyle and he had left. She and all her baggage had been too much for him and he had left without a second thought. She couldn't do that to Jeremiah. She didn't want to do that to Jeremiah. He deserved better than that. She couldn't push all of her baggage onto him. She couldn't run the risk of him leaving like Kyle. True, she had been just fine when Kyle had left, she had managed to find her own way, but it had been torturous, and she didn't to go through that all over again. She couldn't allow Jeremiah to see her crazy. "Go rest," Jeremiah whispered in her ear, "I'll take care of everything." His voice was gentle in her ear, and she willingly caved, unable to hold off the darkness any longer. Prompt: "No one has ever stood so close to my soul as you." Angelica opened her eyes slowly, blinking in surprise. She was still wrapped up in Jeremiah's arms. For the first time in forever, she had slept peacefully. No nightmares, no monsters. Just peace. Sleep. Rest. He really had protected her. He had taken care of her just like he had promised to. "No one has ever stood so close to my soul as you," Angelica said softly, as she looked up at Jeremiah. Jeremiah smiled down at the still groggy Angelica. 'You are my soul,' he thought to himself as he placed a kiss on her forehead. "I hope you slept well," he said instead. Prompt: Blood on your hands, they say, as though it stops there; at your wrist, like a glove. As though you could do this, and there could be any part of you that wasn't stained or dripping.
"Blood on your hands they say," Angelica said. She stared at her hands, as if literally seeing the blood dripping from her hands and would never recover from the sight. She shook her head with a scoff. "As though it stops there," she sniffed as tears began to fall down her face, "At your wrist, like a glove." She broke her glance from her hands and up at Jeremiah, who was sitting next to her. "As though you could do this." She turned her attention back to the dead body laying at her feet. "And there could be any part of you that wasn't stained or dripping." She would never get over what she had done. There would never be a part of her that wasn't dripping in blood. She would always be stained. She was forever changed because of what she had done, and she could never get over it. Jeremiah gently pulled Angelica into his shoulder and held her tightly as she fell apart. Prompt: I need more sleep
Jeremiah looked down at Angelica as she slept. He didn't think he had ever seen her so quiet before, so calm, so peaceful. She needed this. She needed to sleep. He pulled the blanket up closer around her, thankful that he was able to give her this peace. Prompt: I wondered how it would feel to be touched and not be afraid.
She looked over to Jeremiah. He looked so upset that she had flinched as their hands grazed. "I'm sorry," Jeremiah said softly, looking down at his hands guiltily, upset that he had caused her pain, even though he hadn't meant to. "It's okay," Angelica said softly. She withdrew her hands, holding them close to her body so they wouldn't run the risk of being touched again. She looked over at Jeremiah, her heart aching for the fact that she had upset him, that by flinching she had hurt him. She hated hurting people - and she didn't want to hurt Jeremiah. He had been such a life line for her. He had protected her. He had cared for her. He had taken care of her. She didn't want to cause him pain. She looked over at him as he turned his attention to something else to avoid the awkwardness that had settled into the room. As she looked at him, she couldn't help but wonder what it would feel like to be touched and not feel afraid. What would it feel like to be able to be touched and not wonder how much pain she would have to endure with the touch, to know, without a doubt, that the touch would be gentle, caring. She wondered what that was like. Maybe Jeremiah could help her find out. Prompt: "What's our exit strategy?" / "Our what?" / 'Oh no, we're gonna die."
Aiden winced as he licked his busted lip. He had risked everything to bring Sasha back home to him, to save her. And now, all he had to show for his efforts was a busted lip and a swollen hand. Sasha was still missing. Putar was dead, and his entire world was falling to pieces. The hangman adjusted the ropes around the men’s necks. Aiden could feel Allen’s eyes on him, and knew that it held that accusation that this whole thing was his fault. Aiden moved his eyes toward an object in the distance, ignorning the glare burning into him from the other side. “This is all your fault,” Allen whispered. “I know,” Aiden said, glancing back to Allen quickly, before glancing away again. “So, what's our exit strategy?" “Our what? “You don’t have an exit strategy? We're gonna die!" “Well, sorry, I didn’t think we’d wind up getting kidnapped and hanged. This isn’t exactly how I planned on things playing out.” “Quiet!” the hangman ordered. “Why?” Aiden asked, “You’re going to kill us anyway, why should we be silent? I’ll say whatever I want to say. I’m dead anyway.” The hangman turned to Lauralie. She gave a slight nod of her head, telling her minion that it was time to end their lives. Prompt: She was a soldier with a stone-cold heart. A warrior when she fought. A goddess when she smiled. Kings have fallen across the ages for such a smile. A smile made to destroy worlds and rebuild them. A smile worth dying for.
Allen looked at Felicia as her auburn hair blew in the wind as she fought, the sword glistening in the light. Felicia was a soldier with a stone-cold heart. She was an absolute warrior when she fought, no one could beat her. She was a goddess when she smiled. Kings had fallen across the ages for such a smile. He had fallen for such a smile. It was a smile that destroyed worlds, a smile that could rebuild them. It was a smile worth dying for. Prompt: "Oh my, what have I done to deserve such a beautiful smile?"
Angelica saw Jeremiah from across the room. Her heart leapt in her chest and she could feel her mood rising sky high. With all the elation rushing through her body, she couldn't help but run over to him and throw her arms around his neck, jumping lightly into his arms. She pulled away with a peck on his cheek and smiled at him with a smile that lit up her entire face. "Oh my," Jeremiah laughed, "What have I don't to deserve such a beautiful smile?" "You showed up," Angelica said. If that's all it took, Jeremiah vowed to show up all the time. Prompt: I wish I could have stayed in your life, but I was too much and not enough at the same time.
Angelica looked over at Kyle. Her heart was breaking. She wished she could have stayed in his life. She wished they could have been end game, the couple that made it, but it wasn't to be. She had been too much and not enough at the same time. |
