Prompt: What would your characters dress up as for Halloween?
Prompt: Happy Halloween "Happy Halloween!" Jesse shouted, coming out decked out like a witch. Carrie stared at Jesse with wide eyes, and looked back and forth between Jesse and Hunter, trying to figure out what was going on. She was just about to ask a question when Saralee came out dressed as an athlete. "Happy Halloween Jesse," Hunter smiled over at Jesse, "Sara," he moved his attention to Saralee, "And what is Chilly this year?" While he didn't quite understand Jesse and Sara's love for dressing up and celebrating this weird holiday they called Halloween, he did enjoy seeing the cute costume they would put Chilly in. "She is you," Jesse said as Chilly toddled into the room dressed all in black. "Unter, Unter," she cried, clapping her hands and toddling over to her favorite uncle. Hunter opened his arms wide, welcoming the great, big hug and sloppy kiss Chilly placed on his cheek. "I better watch out," he smiled at his favorite person in the world, "Or you," he tickled her stomach, making her giggle with delight, "Are going to take my spot." "Unter," Chilly giggled, "I Unter." "You make a very cute Unter," Carrie smiled at the couple. "My Unter," Carrie said, clinging to Hunter's neck and glowering at Carrie as if she had just tried to steal her precious Unter from her, "Unter trick or treating?" she turned her attention back to Hunter. Jesse, Saralee, and Carrie looked at Hunter expectantly. "I'll take her," Hunter agreed. With Jesse and Saralee's move to the Portal, the village had began to accept the Halloween tradition of trick-or-treating, especially once Chilly was born. Everyone seemed to take great delight in their King wandering around the village with his precious niece and showing off her costume. It was one of the most looked forward to event of the year.

Prompt: The last thing you remember before losing consciousness is fighting a shady Uber driver.
I knew I shouldn't have gotten into that car. I knew I should have listened to my gut. It had told me not to get into the car, it had told me it was a bad idea, but no, I thought I was smarter, I thought I didn't have to listen. Now I was ruing the day that I didn't listen to myself. That Uber driver had been shady from the get go. He had even looked shady. Everyone had told me not to go with him. Everyone else had backed out the moment they had seen him, but not me. No, I had to go because I didn't want the man to feel bad. I had to put his feelings above my own safety, because I was an idiot. There was no other word for it. I was an absolute idiot. I knew that's exactly what I was being the moment I got into the car. Now I knew it even more. I don't remember where he took me. It was dark, and like an even bigger idiot than I already was, I didn't even think about paying attention. I figured, okay, he looks sketchy, but he isn't going to hurt me, it's fine if I don't pay attention to where we're going, after all, he's just going to take me home. No big deal. Boy was I wrong. It was a big deal. It was a huge deal. It was the biggest deal on the face of the planet. Now, because I had stupidly allowed him to take me wherever he wanted without paying attention, I was now in the middle of nowhere with this man. Even if I had been able to call for help - which, go figure I couldn't, because like the moron that I am, I allowed my cellphone battery die - I'm sure there wasn't a signal, after all, we were in the middle of nowhere. Where would the signal come from? So there I was, an absolute moron from the start, ready to die a moron's death. And that's the last thing I remember before losing consciousness - fighting a shady Uber driver. Just my luck. Prompt: What even is The Monster Mash?
"What even is the monster mash?" Ryan asked. "It is a graveyard smash," Henry shrugged without even missing a beat. "It's the Transylvania Twist," Skye responded nearly at the same time. "You catch on in a flash," Charles added. "After all," Alysha chimed in, "It's the hit of the land." Prompt: A family buys a cheap house only to discover that an old cemetery is their back yard.
Prompt: A black cat crosses your path. It was the perfect house. Their dream house, in fact. And it was a steal. Way under market value. They couldn't have been happier. Yet, as they walked into the house, a black cat crossed their path. It was forever down hill after that. They soon realized that there was a reason the house was sold so cheaply. There was a cemetery in their back yard. In fact, it was the whole back yard. And of course, as a cemetery, it was haunted, and the ghosts didn't like new comers. Prompt: Hi Christi, it's Helen. I just wanted to let you know that if Britney EVER pulls another stunt like that against my precious Caitlin again, you WILL be banned from the cul-de-sac barbecue. Brittney's actions were despicable. Of course, she can't help what she learns from her mother. Hugs and kisses, Helen. I was just going about my day when my phone rings, alerting me of a text. 'Hi Christi,' it read. I shouldn't be reading it. I wasn't Christi. Yet I couldn't help myself. I continued. 'It's Helen. I just wanted to let you know that if Brittney EVER pulls another stunt like that against my precious Caitlin again, you WILL be banned from the cul-de-sac barbecue.' Wow that was harsh. I wondered what Brittney had done to Caitlin. It must have been quite the drama. 'Brittney's actions were despicable. Of course, she can't help what she learns from her mother. Hugs and Kisses, Helen.' Wow, passive aggressive much Helen? Prompt: Ghost
Prompt: 1930 gangster Sara paused in her tracks her eyes wide as she watched a man, looking very much like Al Capone, walking her way. She couldn't move. She just sat there, watching. "This place is too dangerous for me," the Al Capone look a like mumbled under his breath, "I'm going back to Chicago." As he said that, he disappeared from sight, nowhere to be seen again. Prompt: Spiders
Spiders are gross. They are the worst things ever. They should have died off a long time ago. Honestly, how are they still alive? How do I keep finding them everywhere I go? Prompt; Why
Felicia took a deep breath before she slammed Aiden's head against the wall...repeatedly...with great pleasure. She had thought that Chilly's why questions had been annoying, but they would be music to her ears right now. She would gladly listen to, "But why? But why? But why?" until her ears bled if it meant getting away from Aiden and his annoying presence. He didn't even have to be doing anything and he was already getting on her nerves. She couldn't take it any more. "He's not worth it," Saralee whispered with a laugh in Felicia's ear. Felicia looked over at her friend and cousin with an inquisitive look. Saralee didn't say a word, just looked down at Felicia's clenched fists and then over at Aiden. Enough was said. Aiden was the only one who couldn't seem to see how much he annoyed her, and how much she wanted to give him a high five, in the face, with a chair, repeatedly. Or maybe he did, and it was funny to him, and that's why he continued to torment her. Prompt: Dark Woods
Prompt: Something wicked this way comes "Don't go into the woods." "It's dangerous." "People disappear in the woods." People of the town talked about the woods in hushed, frightened whispers. No one knew the horrors that lurked there. They didn't dare to try and find out. When it came to the woods, all they knew was that something wicked came from them, and that was enough for them. Prompt: Monsters
I crept to my door and stood outside, breathing hard. What had Dad said? “Monsters under the bed aren’t real. It’s all in your imagination and the only power they have over you is the power you give them by believing in them.” Except this wasn’t a monster under the bed. This wasn’t a monster in the closet. This was monster was on the ceiling so I could see it as I lay in bed. This monster was in the bed springs so I could feel it when I tried to sleep. This monster followed me to school, tripping me up at gym and distracting me in math. This monster was in my head where I couldn’t escape it. I could always hear him, like some malevolent god who demanded sacrifice. And he got it. Whatever he told me, I was compelled to do. It started off as a jokester, silly pranks. Switching the sugar and the salt, folding the sheets in half, turning off the hot water. Then they began to escalate. Filling the Wilson’s hot tub with blue dye. Stealing Parker’s bike. Slashing the tires of a blue Chevy on 5th street. Then I had to jump off the roof. My parents were upset, but they thought it had been one of those things kids try- testing their limits, seeing if they could fly. I let them believe that. But things were getting out of hand. The monster was demanding more and more- and it was going to cost me my life, or someone else’s. That little tidbit- “Just don’t believe”- is the only help I got from Dad. At least it was better than what I got from Mom, which was- “You can’t blame your bad behavior on an imaginary friend. For heaven’s sake, you’re eleven now! Act like it!” I took a deep breath. Well, might as well try. “Monster’s don’t exist. There is nothing in my room. Monsters don’t exist. There is nothing in my room. Monsters-“ As I opened the door the swirling, impenetrable Darkness sucked the remainder of my breath. Black and tinged red, I could feel the anger and…amusement? The Darkness folding in on itself and rushed towards the door. I tried to slam it shut, but too late. The Darkness invaded my mind, hijacked my thoughts, commanded my emotions. “You’re not REAL!!!!!” I shrieked. A dry, sinister chuckle vibrated through my mind and then He spoke. “Nice try, Sam, but I've been at this for centuries. Whether you believe in me or not, I will continue to exist.” Prompt: Sneaking into an abandoned building
“We should do something scary,” Jayson said. The group was lounging around their apartment. The night was creeping away from them. Jayson was tired of spending every night inside, doing nothing. He needed to get out and do something, anything, and he wanted something to scare him, in a different way than he had been scared during the pandemic. “I’m in,” Jenica immediately jumped in, “But if we get arrested, it’s all your fault.” She gave him her best, sternest face. “We won’t get arrested,” Jayson said. He paused for a moment, almost as if he was thinking about it, “At least, I don’t think we will. After all, it’s only a Tuesday. I know how to restrain myself.” “You absolutely do not,” Aaron jumped in. Jayson had absolutely no restraint when it came to his strange ideas that more often than not could get him and everyone else he dragged with him, killed. He would just blaze right through them. He never thought about the consequences of his actions. Determined to do something that was terrifying, Jayson grabbed Jenica’s hand and dragged her to the car. He parked the car near a haunted house. “Shh,” he whispered as they slipped up the hill toward the house. “Really?” Jenica said sarcastically, “Cause I was going to make as much noise as possible to get us arrested.” She hissed at him as she followed behind her friend. She was beginning to wonder why she had decided to come to this thing in the first place. Why did she always follow Jayson around? Why did he always choose to go where people were told not to go? Jayson paused in his tracks and his wide eyes widened with fear. “Did you see that?” Jayson whispered. Jenica’s heart leapt in her throat and she began to tremble. She hoped that Jayson was only playing around and that he hadn’t really seen anything. He was devious like that, so she wouldn’t put it past him. “Um,” she said. Jenica was trying to figure out how she was supposed to respond to that question. “The correct answer is no,” Jayson said, “Now walk faster!” Jayson grabbed her hand and raced off the grass adn deeper into the the haunted hospital. As Jayson raced through the hallways of the hospital, Jenica lost hold of his hand, and she found herself all alone. Jenica’s heart began to race inside of her chest. She tried to turn on the flashlight in her hand, but the batteries must have died. She was left alone in the dark. She heard a blood curdling scream and her blood ran cold. She froze to the spot as a breeze of cold air rushed through her. She felt something tugging at her clothes and at her hair. She could hear whispers of people surrounding her, and shouts of angry people not getting helped as screams of agony echoed through her head. Overwhelmed, she fell to the ground. When she woke up, she found herself strapped to a bed. There was a muzzle over her face, making it impossible to scream, no matter how hard she tried. “Jenica?” she could hear Jayson calling for her. His voice sounded worried. He didn’t get scared. Not really. But he sounded scared now. Jenica tried to call out to him, to let him know where she was. She tried to struggle against her binds, but that too was useless. Once again, darkness overcame her. However, when she came to this time, she could herself floating in a corner with blocks and balls bouncing around her head. “Well,” Jayson said when he finally found her, “That’s a super awkward spot to get you out of.” Jenica could only glare at her best friend. If he had been in range, she would have slapped him. “You jerk!” she shouted at him, “I hate you!” she struggled to get free, “How did you do this?” “I didn’t do it!” Jayson defended himself. To his credit, he did look as mystified as she was about hte whole situation. “Then why are you laughing?” she asked. She wasn’t ready to believe that it wasn’t Jayson somehow. “Because,” Jayson continued to laugh, “Whoever did it is a freaking genius,” he put his hands on his knees as he tried to regain some breath, “How the heck did you end up there, of all places?” Tears were literally streaming down his face as he laughed, making him unable to stand upright. “Does it matter how I got up here?” Jenica continued to fight to get free, but it was of no use, “All I care about is that you GET ME DOWN RIGHT NOW!!!!” “Okay, okay?” Jayson breathed, sobering up. Jayson tried to get out of the corner, but he found himself getting attacked by blocks and balls. He trudged forward and managed to pull Jenica back to the ground. "You really didn’t have anything to do with this?” she asked when she was once again on the ground. Her voice was trembling and she hated the fact that she sounded like a scared little girl. “No,” Jayson confirmed. That was exactly the thing that Jenica didn’t want to hear. She wanted to hear Jayson fess up, and tell her that he had rigged this all up somehow so that he could scare her. She wanted to hear that it had all been some kind of joke. She wanted Jayson to smile that smile of his. She wanted him to shout, ‘Got you!’ but he didn’t. In fact, he looked just as freaked out about what had happened as she was. The thought made her blood run cold. Jayson didn’t scare easily. In fact, she could count on one hand the amount of times that he had actually gotten scared. It just didn’t happen. “Did you hear the scream?” Jenica asked. “Scream?” Jayson asked. While they were there he had heard a lot of things, strange noises, screams, whispers, you name it. Which one could she possibly be talking about? “Shortly after we got separated,” Jenica explained, “There was a blood curdling scream. Did you hear that too?” “Of course I did,” Jayson said, “I was the one that screamed. I saw this ghost that was coming at me, so I screamed.” Jayson’s face was pale. Gone was the normal, easy going Jayson that Jenica had known so well. He was scared, and that thought made Jenica tremble. She grabbed her friend’s hand and he held onto it tightly. Jenica could feel her tension start to ease as he held her. The feel of his hand inside hers was comforting. Jayson pulled her closer until he was holding her against him. Jenica took a deep breath, breathing in his manly scent. It was clean and strong; smelling of home and comfort. She clung to that smell, letting it wash over her as it worked its magic as the steady, if not rapid, beat of Jayson’s heart filled Jenica with a new strength and confidence. While in Jayson’s arms, Jenica may have appeared weak and fragile, she had never felt stronger and more capable. She could handle anything. Whatever happened, she knew she could handle it. She could get through anything if she could have him there, giving her that ever so necessary boost when life got just a little too scary. “Let’s go,” he said, kissing the top of her head. Jenica didn’t have to be told twice. The two of them raced back to the car. |
